Trump’s Advisers Scared That NY AG Will Inflict Serious ‘Political Damage’ to Trump, His Supporters Will Realize He Lied About Wealth

In some ways, watching Donald Trump’s “legal perils” fulminate is like watching a volcano erupt. The resulting pyroclastic flow gallops down the mountain and anyone living at the foot of the volcano better run like h*ll to avoid being swallowed up.

And some within the former president’s circle are beyond worried that New York A.G. Letitia James is seriously damaging the former president’s reputation by exposing him as decidedly less wealthy than he has convinced his followers he is, Raw Story reports.

In the report by The Washington Post, Trump has a wellspring of legal troubles encompassing him. Especially, if you remember, there’s that Grand Jury investigating him for alleged election fraud. And of course, the notorious battle between the Justice Department and Trump over those classified documents could wind up with his being indicted under the Espionage Act or under obstruction charges. The allegations James made earlier this week relating to real estate fraud are just the latest in his revolving door of legal troubles.

“Trump now has more than a dozen lawyers working on various probes against him, with financial support for their efforts coming both from the Republican National Committee and his political committee Save America,” per The Post. “There are separate sets of lawyers for each of the investigations. His political team has tried to cheer him up at times with positive tweets and other conservative news articles that he shares through his PAC website.”

And one associate notes Trump tends to act like everything is business as usual.

“He just rolls on and acts like all these things, at least to everyone around him, aren’t slowing him down,” the source said.

Despite Trump’s apparent show of confidence, those in his inner circle still worry about the reality of the situation they are all in.

“Among Trump’s advisers, the Jan. 6 investigation from the Justice Department and the Mar-a-Lago document probe are widely viewed as the most wide-ranging and perilous to Trump and his inner circle,” the Post reports and adds, “But some advisers fear the biggest political damage could be done by James, as his wealth has long been part of his mystique to Republican voters.”

CNN reported earlier this year that increasing questions are being raised about how wealthy Trump actually is. At one point political analyst Chris Cillizza recalled Trump made “his wealth and center” when he announced his candidacy for president in 2016.

“I mean, part of the beauty of me is that I’m very rich. So if I need $600 million, I can put $600 million myself. That’s a huge advantage. I must tell you, that’s a huge advantage over the other candidates.”

But now all of that may seem to haunt him. The volcano is rumbling and he may get caught in the pyroclastic flow while rocks the size of Volkswagens rain down around him. I live near the feet of two active volcanoes but somehow I think my footing is more secure.
