The MAGAs are united by what they hate, not what they love, what they value, or any of that. It’s why the Access Hollywood tape never amounted to anything. The next night, at the debate, Trump told Hillary that she’d be in jail if he became president. It was case-closed with the MAGA voter. The only thing that mattered with respect to Trump was that he hated everything they hate.

The maxim has always been true. Indeed, we’ve written the above dozens of times over the last few years. But today, on Nicolle Wallace’s show, Haberman was talking about whether Trump is a racist, and what brought the MAGAs together, why Trump would back Walker even harder now:

“It’s the lowering of the bar and the erosion of the bar, Trump wants to show that nothing matters. To show there are no red lines anymore always makes him happy.”

Of course, because laws and standards are for democracies and enlightened people. It is much harder to put a fascist autocrat in place when people have expectations and a sense of outrage. It also helps when accused of a serious crime. One sure doesn’t want it to matter. No wonder it appeals to Trump.

And, getting back to being united with hatred, Haberman addressed Trump’s racism:

I think he says and does racist things over a very long period of time. I don’t know how else you would define it.

Somebody incorporating racial paranoia into his public persona since the 1980s, the Central Park case, teenagers were charged inside that case and they were all teenagers of color, and he called for bringing back the death penalty and he still won’t apologize even though… there is proof now that their confessions were coerced by officials. So, you go from there through the White House. You know, he repeatedly says racist things and then says he was taken out of context. But at a certain point, I am not sure how much benefit of the doubt people are supposed to give him.

Saying, “But Herschel Walker is black” is like saying, “I have lots of black friends,” it’s meaningless to Trump and the MAGAs. Herschel Walker is black, but he’s also a rich “celebrity” ex-football player and huge MAGA. He isn’t part of what they hate. The fact that any Georgian would vote for Walker “Because he’s a Christian,” over the very “Christian” Rev. Ralph Warnock, who preaches from Martin Luther King’s pulpit at the esteemed Ebeneezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. Warnock has lived it… just not as a rich celebrity who loves Trump, is just another measure of what they don’t like in “those people.”

So long as there are standards, expectations, democracy, and lines, Warnock wins every time, and no one knows it better than Trump. Throw out all things “enlightened,” and it’s all “Who is the strongest?” Meaning willing to do anything.
