2022 Midterms

Republicans Don’t Want Trump to Help Campaign for the Georgia Senate Runoff, and Trump is FURIOUS

Former President Donald Trump is absolutely fuming over the fact that prominent Republicans are trying to discourage him from campaigning in Georgia for GOP hopeful Herschel Walker as the Senate run-off election gets underway in December, Rolling Stone reports.

Sources familiar with the situation told the publication that prominent figures within the GOP as well as some Trump allies have asked the ex-president not to hold a rally in Georgia on the eve of the December 6 run-off between Walker and incumbent sen. Raphael Warnock (D).

Neither candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote during the midterm elections on November 8, and state law mandates that the election outcome will be determined in a runoff, BusinessInsider reports. The vote will, of course, determine whether the Democrats will increase their majority in the Senate.

Both sources say that Trump has said he will be upset if the party invites Florida governor Ron DeSantis to campaign during the runoffs. DeSantis is viewed as Trump’s biggest challenger for the 2024 GOP nomination.

As we already know, Trump endorsed hundreds of candidates during the midterm elections in an effort to shore up his grip on the Republican Party before tossing his MAGA hat in the ring. But that strategy was derailed because many of the candidates he endorsed crashed and burned and the Democrats surprised everyone by keeping control of the Senate and giving the GOP a narrow House majority.

Some within the GOP also believe Trump’s seemingly endless claims of election fraud conspiracy theories in 2020 may have led to the Republican Party’s defeats in two Senate runoffs in Georgia last year. And more than a few critics say they believe it discouraged many party supporters from voting, per Politico.

Walker’s campaign has already had its share of stumbling blocks that he created all on his own. The biggest one? Declaring he supported a near-total ban on abortion, only to have it revealed that he paid a former girlfriend to have an abortion more than a decade ago.

Oops.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t think he forgot this. If he did, it’s a good reason why he should not be elected to the Senate.
