GOP Hypocrisy

Hunter Biden Considering Suing Fox News, Eric Trump and Rudy Giuliani

Republicans have made no bones about their hopes to investigate Hunter Biden once they retake the U.S. House in January, so now a team of legal eagles is ginning up to give Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, a hand.

And one of the ways they may do this is by bringing defamation suits against prominent GOP figures, Newsweek reports. That’s according to a detailed report published Saturday by The Washington Post which highlighted the efforts currently being taken to protect Biden’s youngest son after the GOP takes office.

Hunter Biden has been the object of continual scrutiny by Republicans over claims about his business dealings and his father’s alleged involvement in them while holding office. All of which are unsubstantiated. But facts like this don’t bother Republicans and several have announced intentions to go full steam ahead with an investigation come January.

So now, the team assembling to fight the potential investigations includes Kevin Morris, a lawyer who’s close friends with Hunter Biden. During a meeting held in California in September to discuss possible strategies, Morris listed numerous possibilities, including potential defamation lawsuits against conservative entities such as Fox News and key Republicans (Rudy Giuliani and Eric Trump, for instance) who helped to spread unsubstantiated conspiracy theories against the younger Biden.

While Hunter Biden wasn’t present for the meeting, he did briefly call in to offer suggestions. Alongside Morris, Biden has hired two additional attorneys who will handle future legal issues, including Chris Clark, formerly a top official at the Department of Justice. He is expected to handle issues related to federal probes into Biden’s business dealings, while attorney Joshua A. Levy will handle matters related to House investigations.

The Biden White House has the unenviable role of trying to appear neutral, maintaining that Hunter Biden, as a private citizen, isn’t an appropriate target for congressional investigations. It dismisses GOP efforts against the younger Biden as conspiracy theories. And the administration plans to take a minimal role in investigations related to this while placing greater emphasis on investigations with greater merit.

“The president loves his son and is proud that he has overcome his addiction and is moving forward with his life,” said Ian Sams, the lead White House spokesman for oversight and investigations, in an interview with the Post. “Congressional Republicans’ politically motivated partisan attacks on the president and his family are rooted in nonsensical conspiracy theories and do nothing to address the real issues Americans care about.”

And of course, in the past week, Hunter Biden’s past troubles have been put on blast by Twitter CEO Elon Musk, who released a cache of internal emails that focus on the company’s inept handling of a story by the New York Post in 2020 about materials found on Hunter Biden’s laptop. According to these messages, Joe Biden’s presidential campaign contacted Twitter to encourage the removal of numerous tweets relating to Hunter Biden.

Deeper digging by reporters also revealed the tweets included personal and intimate photos of Hunter Biden, adding fuel to conservative arguments that the removal of these photos constitutes governmental interference in free speech since “revenge p*rn” materials violate the policies of most social media platforms, Newsweek reports.

Republicans could be focusing on meaningful things rather than persecuting Hunter Biden and playing the blame game. You know, doing meaningful things like finding effective methods to reduce inflation (rather than blaming Biden for it) and not fighting against a crucial infrastructure bill (and then turning right around and asking for money from the bill they voted against.) Things like that.

It’s almost as if some Republicans are still angry that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election and they are doing whatever they can to get in the way. They certainly aren’t interested in meeting the needs of everyday Americans. Who are hopefully fed up with these shenanigans by now?
