Jim Jordan and Kevin McCarthy ‘Quite Likely’ Under Investigation by the DOJ

In a recent interview on MSNBC, former U.S. Attorney Barb McQuade said she thinks that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and House Minority Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) are “quite likely” being investigated by the Department of Justice for their alleged role in attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election on January 6, 2021, Newsweek reports.

During the interview Thursday, McQuade was asked by MSNBC host Alex Wagner whether she thinks the DOJ is taking a closer look at the alleged actions of Jordan and McCarthy on the day of the failed insurrection. Republicans, for their part, having recently regained control of the House, are gearing up to investigate members of the Jan. 6 committee.

“I think they’re quite likely under investigation. Jim Jordan and Kevin McCarthy, I mean we know that they were having direct communications with Donald Trump on January 6,” McQuade said. “At this point, I suppose they [the January 6 committee] consider them to be witnesses, but I think they’d want to know what they have to say.”

McQuade also told Wagner that she thinks Jordan and McCarthy may be requested for an interview or that they could even be subjected to a grand jury subpoena, with the DOJ “having the ability to ‘compel’ their testimony,” per Newsweek.

Fittingly, the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot released a report on Thursday that underscored Jordan’s alleged role in attempting to overturn the 2020 election. In the report, the committee described Jordan as a “significant player,” in Trump’s efforts to upend the election.

“He participated in numerous post-election meetings in which senior White House officials, Rudolph Giuliani, and others, discussed strategies for challenging the election, chief among them claims that the election had been tainted by fraud,” according to the report.

Jordan has dodged subpoenas issued by the committee, failing to appear to give a deposition on either May 27 or June 11, earlier this year.

But whether they like it or not, McQuade notes, Jordan and McCarthy will need to speak to the House committee, whether as witnesses or defendants, depending upon which way the evidence goes.

“It’s highly sensitive to go after information from a sitting member of Congress, but they’re not being targeted because they’re members of Congress, they’re being targeted because of their conduct and conversations with Donald Trump on January 6,” McQuade said.

So the situation may be about to get uncomfortable for Jordan and McCarthy, but if they’re hiding what they know, then they deserve it.

Here’s what McQuade had to say in the video below.
