Former Prosecutor Says Cowardly Trump Will ‘Fold Like a House of Cards’ to Avoid Prison

Former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner said he believes ex-president Donald Trump will “fold like a house of cards” to avoid prison if he is indicted in any of the criminal investigations against him, Newsweek reports.

Kirschner discussed the situation with The Legal Breakdown host Bryan Tyler Cohen, who asked him Saturday whether or not he thinks Trump will be charged in different cases should an indictment be handed down against him in the Georgia election investigation.

“I would like to think that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has the kind of backbone [and] has the kind of bravery, and the kind of determination to move forward with indictments against the former president and his criminal associates,” Kirschner replied.

Kirschner, who’s also a legal analyst for NBC News and MSNBC said he hopes the DOJ won’t have to rely on Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who’s in charge of the Georgia probe, to be the first to bring charges against Trump so they can follow up with indictments in the other cases.

Of course, it seems like the investigations into Trump and his allies for purportedly trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia have been dragging on forever, but the situation is gaining some steam. On Tuesday, Willis urged Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney not to reveal the findings of a special grand jury to the public. The jury has spent months looking into the case.

Willis also cautioned the judge to be careful about “protecting future defendants’ rights,” in regard to the criminal investigation. At the same time, she added that a decision on potential criminal charges is imminent.” She didn’t mention any names, however.

To be honest, I’m beginning to wonder if any indictments will be handed down, but Kirschner remains optimistic. And of course, he knows a heck of a lot more about this than I do. And on Saturday, he told Cohen that he believes charges brought against Trump in the Georgia election probe will “embolden” and “encourage” the DOJ to “accelerate” its pace and step up the indictments a bit quicker.

“I think prosecutors who are investigating Donald Trump are going to need all the support they can find both legally and atmospherically and that’s why I think once one indictment drops, and the others begin to drop, that’s when you’re going to see Donald Trump fold like a house of cards,” Kirschner said. “And I think he’s going to be desperate to strike whatever kind of deals he can strike to minimize his exposure, ultimately, to prison.”

On a Thursday episode of Cohen’s show, Kirschner predicted Trump could very well face trial within “one year” if he’s indicted in the Georgia election investigation.

“If I had to guess, once the indictments are returned and Donald Trump is presented in court on that indictment, and he is arraigned, [and]…read the charges that the grand jury has leveled against him, we’ll probably see a trial date set somewhere between six months to a year down the road,” but the defense attorney will forever try to file motions to continue to push it further and further  down the road,” he said.

Trump has continually maintained his innocence, and he’s being investigated in several criminal probes, including the way he allegedly handled classified documents that FBI agents seized at his Mar-a-Lago residence last August, and, of course, there’s his alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection when a crazed mob of his supporters attacked in order to block Joe Biden’s Electoral College certification, Newsweek reports.

I really hope Kirschner is right about this and that the wheels of justice are merely turning slowly. But I have my doubts.
