[UPDATED] The Cruelty is the Point: Republicans Trying to Force Jamie Raskin to Remove the Cap He Wears as He Undergoes Chemo

According to reports, Heather Caygle of Punchbowl News was wrong when she claimed Republicans were trying to force Raskin to remove the cap he is wearing while he undergoes chemotherapy. Raskin explained to Raw Story, “he was kidding around with that comment”. Caygle has not corrected her tweet, but Twitter did add additional information stating the tweet was false:

As Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) wears a cap to cover his head while he undergoes chemotherapy, Republicans are stooping to a catty new low. When the Democrats controlled the House, they effectively banned the wearing of hats. So now, of course, out of spite, Republicans are trying to force Raskin to remove his cap, The Daily reports.

Notes Heather Caygle of Punchbowl News:

“Rep. Jamie Raskin gets a standing ovation in Dem Caucus after saying he will push back on Republican efforts to make him take off the cap he’s been wearing as he undergoes chemotherapy.”

“‘And I will make them take off their toupees,'” Raskin said to Dem cheers.”

Obviously, Raskin is being good-natured about this. Caygle also noted:

“I just asked Speaker McCarthy about this as he exited the GOP conference.

“McCarthy said ‘he doesn’t know anything about that’ but said he’d ‘look into it.'”

McCarthy barely knows anything right now about his new job. He’s about as effective as a dull knife through frozen butter perched on the desk inside the Speaker’s office.

The Republicans have turned this into a big game of tit-for-tat. Some seek to impeach Joe Biden because Trump was impeached. Twice. And one of the first things McCarthy did when he gained office was to remove Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell from the intelligence committee because Democrats booted Marjorie Taylor Green and Paul Gosar from their committees, The Daily notes.

As it stands right now, House Republicans have no discernible agenda, except for revenge, and they are picking on Raskin, one of Trump’s most ardent critics, as he battles cancer.

Republicans are merely showing us how awful they really are.
