Trump Will Punish ‘Disloyal’ Pastors by Turning Their Churchgoers Against Them
Donald Trump is enraged at Christian evangelical leaders who are backing away from him. So much so, that he’ll spark a civil war to divide evangelical churches to punish pastors he believes are “disloyal,” said Michael Steele, the former chairman of the Republican National Committee, Raw Story reports.
Some noted evangelical leaders, such as Robert Jeffress, who is the senior pastor of the 14,000-member First Baptist Church, in Dallas, Texas, have expressed interest in former vice president Mike Pence, while others would like to see Florida Ron DeSantis run for president in the 2024 national election.
During an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Steele said conservative pastors will pay the price for supporting Trump in 2016.
“Just because you lay your hands on the devil doesn’t make him a saint, and they knew full well what they were getting,” Steele said. “Donald Trump’s view is, as he said in the interview, ‘I delivered what you wanted, I gave you the Supreme Court justices to give you the one thing wanted, and that was to overturn Roe v. Wade — this is how you repay me?”
“He’s not a Kevin McCarthy, he’s not just going to roll over and go, okay — that’s not how this plays out,” he added. “I keep telling folks, when the man engages, let’s see how he engates, when he decides it’s time to take down these disloyal pastors, he will take them down, and you know who will help take them down? Their very congregants.”

Steele was referring to an interview with the former president on Real America’s Voice, where Trump took the opportunity to lambaste church leaders like Jeffress, who haven’t yet endorsed Trump’s 2024 campaign.

“So the reality for Donald Trump is the leaderships are the tools, those are the tools for him,” he said. “He knows where his bread is buttered. It’s the base, so as long as, you know, he’s at 53 percent, he’s not worried about the 45 percent. Remember, this is a man who went through four years, never cracked 45, 46 percent, and still wreaked havoc.”
But I think this may also go against Trump. He’s extremely petty and will undoubtedly be involved in fights with a lot of folks that he believes have wronged him. That may pave the way for Republicans like DeSantis and Pence to get ahead of him.
I guess we’ll see.
