Right-Wingers Are Cruelly Mocking Joe Biden’s Walk After His State of the Union Address

Some people on social media are scrutinizing President Joe Biden’s walk after he concluded the State of The Union address and I don’t really know why. In one clip we see Biden and first lady Jill Biden walking to their presidential limousine and I have to say his walk looks quite normal to me. It does take him several seconds to climb into the vehicle, but the man is 80 years old, for criminy’s sake.

But apparently, some people can see things that I can’t. Newsweek reports that conservative radio host and Fox News contributor Jesse Kelly was one of several to show C-SPAN footage of Biden leaving the U.S. Capitol after his address. To Kelly, Biden’s gait is evidence of health problems.

“I love how the entire country is supposed to pretend that how Biden walks isn’t at all a big deal,” he wrote on Twitter. “People who know, know that gait…”

Kelly’s post was vague, but others on social media offered far more pointed responses, with some suggesting Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and other brain disorders.

“Notice Biden’s walk?” wrote right-wing American conspiracist/nutball Ali Alexander. “Biden’s particular gait indicates a condition. Short, stiff steps. Unable to bend his knees to get into the car.”

Alexander, one of the organizers of The Stop The Steal Rally that helped incite the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, said he had told people about Biden’s failing health in a documentary he produced that pointed out the president’s “Parkinsonian walk.”

Then there’s this tweet from @daytona_spyder: “Sure let’s all pretend we haven’t seen the countless video clips showing clear cognitive decline and his gait.” There was also a link to a 2012 New York Times report with the headline Footprints to Cognitive Decline and Alzheimer’s Are Seen in Gait.

More than a few people remembered that former President Donald Trump’s own walk was often over-analyzed. There was that time, after all when Trump shuffled awkwardly down a ramp at West Point in June 2020, right before his 74th birthday.

In the following days, Trump defended himself, writing “The ramp that I descended […] was very long & steep, had no handrail and, most importantly, was very slippery. “The last thing I was going to do is ‘fall’ for the Fake News to have fun with. Final ten feet I ran down to level ground. Momentum!”

I can’t help but remember that time when Trump also seemed to have trouble drinking from a water bottle. What was that about?

There are far more pressing issues at hand — inflation is still a thing, the U.S., Russia, and China need to mend some fences but people are complaining about Biden’s walk.

Dear Republicans: Please get ahold of yourselves.
