Eric Trump Spreads Horrible Lie About Alvin Bragg After His Father’s Arrest and Is Quickly Corrected

Donald Trump isn’t the only member of his family who can spread false information. His middle son Eric is pretty good at it too. In a Facebook post, he had some interesting (if wrong) things to say about Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. And Facebook fact-checkers took notice.

The younger Trump was slapped on the wrist for the following bit of stunning stupidity. And it really is stupid, folks.

“Alvin Bragg has shut down the entire city, called up 38,000 NYPD police officers, closed down FDR and is spending an estimated $200 million of city funds, all for a $130,000 NDA,” the post reads. “I never thought I would see this corruption in the United States.”

But the Facebook fact-checkers from USA TODAY and The Associated Press reported this as “False Information,” adding “Independent fact-checkers say this information has no basis in fact. You can choose whether to see it.” Trump’s post was shared roughly 700 times over the following week before being dinged.

Dear old Dad shared a similar post on Truth Social, which of course was not flagged by anyone because the platform is, of course, his baby, and therefore fact-impaired.

And I’m getting this information right from the horse’s mouth — USA TODAY, which found that Eric Trump’s nutball commentary misrepresented what actually happened as well as Bragg’s role in city operations. He didn’t order New York City to shut down and it just plain didn’t happen. In a city with more than 8 million people, that’s just not going to happen, no matter who your dad is. Now, the police department did shut down a part of FDR Drive, but not because Bragg ordered it. The DA doesn’t oversee the NYPD and has and has no authority to call up officers.

Donald Trump was arrested and arraigned at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office on April 4 for allegedly falsifying business records in regard to hush money payments. Trump was accompanied by his usual Secret Service escort, which did draw a crowd, but Eric is really wide of the mark here.

Fabien Levy, who serves as press secretary for New York City Mayor Eric Adams told the publication that Donald and Eric Trump “completely fabricated these numbers without any actual information.”

Eric’s false claim contains a number of absurdities but the one that stumps everyone is his claim that “Bragg is spending an estimated $200 million of city funds” but that’s news to national security lawyer Bradley Moss and Levy. The two are really scratching their heads over this one.

“The $200 million figure they made up is also not based off of anything real,” Levy said.

As for Moss, he said he has no “earthly idea where the $200 million figure is coming from.” And USA TODAY didn’t find any credible news reports of Bragg blowing $200 million in New York City funds on Donald Trump.

If the younger Trump had done his research, he’d have discovered the 2023 fiscal year budget for the district attorney’s office was just over $148 million. Out of that amount, $133 million pays employee salaries.

Obviously, like his father, Eric Trump has found it easy to spread misinformation without being questioned (much) about it. And a March 31 letter to Congress from Leslie R. Dubeck, the general counsel for Bragg’s office indicates the DA’s office spent about $5,000 in federal funds on investigations related to Donald Trump and his company.

That’s a far stretch from $200 million.

But as things stand right now, the full cost of the investigation isn’t completely clear. A spokesperson for Bragg referred one reporter to Dubeck’s letter.

Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Eric Trump told USA TODAY that “if you add up all the costs from various reports, you get $200m.”

Funny how he neglected to send the publication any links to those “reports.” Guess he “forgot.”

Strange how that happens.

Maybe Eric Trump has picked up his brother Don’s fondness for a certain white, powdery substance. I mean he recently claimed “tens and tens of thousands” showed up to support his father while he was being arrested and arraigned. Twitter users had a lot to say about that and it was simply NOT true. If Eric’s hitting the nose napalm, you can expect even more bizarre claims from him.
