Mitch McConnell Is Probably Wishing He Could Delete This Tweet Right Now

Mitch McConnell is just not a likable guy. He’s the most unpopular senator in the country, and even Republicans want the old dude to retire already.

On Thursday McConnell announced he would return to the senate on Monday for the first time in more than five weeks after suffering a concussion following a fall at a private dinner in early March.

McConnell tweeted that he would be in the Capitol when the Senate returned from the two-week April recess, which it did yesterday.

“I am looking forward to returning to the Senate on Monday. We’ve got important business to tackle and big fights to win for Kentuckians and the American people,” he tweeted.

McConnell, who is 81 years old, suffered a concussion after tripping and falling at a private dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in downtown Washington, D.C., on March 8. He was taken by an ambulance to an undisclosed hospital where he stayed for several days of rest and observation.

He was then discharged from the hospital on March 13 to an inpatient rehabilitation facility, where he continued to recover until doctors sent him home on March 25. That’s quite a bit of time to recover from a fall, so obviously the fall was rather serious, and concussions are never good, especially in the elderly.

There was also a rumor that McConnell was preparing to retire, but his tweet certainly contradicts that.

And if McConnell expected his tweet to well received, it wasn’t. In fact, it was just the opposite. Scores of people let McConnell know exactly what they wanted him to do. Most surprisingly, many of the responses were from his fellow conservatives:

And of course it wouldn’t be a Mitch tweet without some turtle responses:
