2024 Election

Top Republican Rightfully Compares Donald Trump to Harry Potter Villain Voldemort

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is mulling a 2024 White House bid even though he tanked in 2016, coming in last place and prompting him to drop out of the race, but during a recent speech in New Hampshire, where he finished dead last he had a few thoughts on the potential challengers who have all stopped short of criticizing former President Donald Trump — former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Vice President Mike Pence, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

This led Christie to compare Trump to Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter series. Voldemort is so terrifying that it’s even dangerous to mention his name, Yahoo! News reports.

“It’s like he’s Voldemort,” Christie said. “You’re not going to beat someone by closing your eyes, clicking your heels together three times and saying there’s no place like home.”

Christie told his audience he’ll make a decision about running by mid-May.

But if he does run, Christie will have to earn a bit more respect in this key early-voting state. And he knows it.

“You people didn’t treat me very nicely,” Christie jokingly said to his audience, who had gathered at New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire.

Right now, Christie crawls in with just 1 percent support in a hypothetical primary, according to a poll released Wednesday by The University of New Hampshire. Trump is leading in the poll (ugh) at 42 percent. DeSantis is 20 points behind, with 22 percent support. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.3 percentage points.

Christie began the Town Hall meeting by agreeing that Trump is the front-runner in the race but declared “he can’t come back.”

“He failed us as president based on what he himself told us in 2015, in 2016, what he would do when he became president,” Christie said, even though he supported Trump in the 2016 and 2020 elections. “He failed us a president on the promises he made to us.”

Then the former New Jersey governor put Trump on blast for all kinds of reasons — failing to repeal the Affordable Care Act, his border wall that (fortunately) didn’t materialize, and his campaign promise to “drain the swamp” in D.C.

But what is Trump’s biggest flaw (there are so many to choose from)?

His attempts to overturn the 2020 election, Christie said.

“He undermined our democracy. And the only reason he undermined our democracy was because he was pissed,” Christie said. “He undermined our democracy because he was angry we didn’t reelect him.”

“He knows he lost to Joe Biden,” Christie said in conclusion, “and that’s why he’s so upset.”

He also criticized the Biden administration for the uptick in inflation and its missteps in the Afghanistan withdrawal. And then he blamed the Biden administration on Trump.

“Biden is the product of Trump’s failures,” Christie told the audience. Christie made it clear that he believes if Trump wins the GOP primary in 2024, Biden will win again.

“If (Trump) is the nominee in 2024, Joe Biden will be the president in 2025,” he said.

I’m not a huge fan of Joe Biden but I wouldn’t want to inflict another Trump administration on anyone. And I started to think more positively about Chris Christie until I found out he wants to raise the retirement age in the U.S. again. Republicans keep supporting this and it’s disgusting. My 63-year-old bones are already bent under the wheel of work and having to do so until 67 already feels like torment.

So Christie’s a solid NOPE for me. And quite frankly, all Republicans are Voldemort to me.
