Election 2020

Trump Was Implicated in Yet ANOTHER Crime But for Some Reason the DOJ Is Refusing to Investigate

Now that Donald Trump has been found liable in a sexual assault verdict, arrested, and arraigned for campaign and finance fraud, and is the subject of a bevy of federal investigations under Special Counsel Jack Smith, AND more investigations pending in New York and Georgia, the former president may finally face legal repercussions for his actions.

And it is way beyond time for that.

But there’s one thing surrounding Trump that federal investigators are ignoring. Something that seems like a pretty big deal really. They don’t appear to be looking into Trump’s potential involvement in a criminal conspiracy that involves accessing and copying voting software systems as part of a sizable scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential election, Slate reports.

As Slate’s Ben Clements and Susan Greenhalgh wrote earlier Wednesday:

“As we reported to federal officials last month, testimony suggests that Trump himself was, at a minimum, aware of the unlawful scheme which was discussed with him at an Oval Office meeting with weeks left to go before the Jan. 6 electoral college count.”

Over the past two years, the true scope of Trump’s attempts to overturn the election has been revealed quite plainly, but for some reason, this piece of the puzzle has been absent from the public’s eyes. It’s eminently clear that this ambitious effort included pressuring state officials to make false claims of voting irregularities and even discard legitimate vote totals; using corrupt means to pressure the Department of Justice to adopt Trump’s false claims of election fraud; bringing in fake electors to defy the voters’ will; and of course, putting pressure on Vice President Mike Pence to certify fake electors over the actual, authentic ones.

But by far the most frightening thing Trump did was to incite the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. That attack turned deadly and it was intended to press Pence even harder to stop the certification of Trump’s electoral defeat. It was a bald-faced attempt to destroy our democracy and subvert the constitutionally mandated transfer of power.

Because that’s the kind of monster Trump is.

The Jan. 6 committee compiled an impressive record and report that outlined how all-encompassing these schemes were because they were illegally aimed at keeping Trump in power. But evidence that was not available to the committee during its tenure has come forward and it shows the conspiracy ran even deeper than previously thought.

Following Jan. 6, reports came in about Trump supporters attempting to gain access to voting systems and software in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Ohio, Slate reports. Most people thought these incidents weren’t connected and were little more than foolhardy Trumpers freelancing in different states to support their zealous belief in the so-called Big Lie.

But now there’s more evidence recently uncovered by plaintiffs in a Georgia lawsuit that indicates these incidents were actually part of a larger plan to falsely cast doubt on, and ultimately overturn the 2020 election.

All of this was quite wide-ranging and allegedly involved Trump’s attorneys Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani.

I’ll explain.

In 2022, plaintiffs in the civil lawsuit against the Georgia Secretary of State discovered evidence of another voting system software breach in Coffee County, Georgia. Documents and depositions show that this software breach was directed and funded by Powell’s organization Defending the Republic. She also arranged for the same operatives to gain access to and copy voting software in Michigan and Nevada.

This attempt at subverting democracy is far too wide-ranging for me to adequately cover here. I recommend that you read Slate’s report.

“…Our review of the committee’s testimony establishes that the unlawful scheme to copy voting system software in multiple states went straight to the top—Trump himself. During a now-infamous December 18, 2020 Oval Office meeting with Trump attended by Powell, Rudy Giuliani, and others—during which Powell advocated the federal government seizing voting machines—Giuliani offered an alternative plan, promising that he was ‘going to be able to secure access to voting machines in Georgia through means other than seizure.”

What the hey? And it’s not like Slate kept mum about this. The outlet reported this to the FBI and the Justice Department and requested a federal investigation.

The result of all that? Crickets. This is not an oversight. Information currently available to the public shows there’s been no federal investigation into the software scheme.

Why aren’t the DOJ and FBI investigating this? Where are Attorney General Merrick Garland and Smith on this? It almost seems like this is being swept under an imaginary rug. And that is a real disservice to the American people.

Shameful.
