Former Staffer Says Trump Will Drop Out of 2024 Race in Exchange for Deal to Avoid Prosecution or Prison

Anthony Scaramucci, whose 15 minutes of fame happened when he briefly served as Donald Trump’s White House communications director in 2017 is saying he believes Trump will drop out of the 2024 presidential race before the first Iowa Caucus.

At least that’s what he told Chris Cuomo on the former CNN anchor’s NewsNation show on Monday, saying he believes Trump is probably “stressed out” over his indictment regarding his alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Recent polls show Trump is still the most popular candidate among likely GOP primary voters by a sizeable margin. And that of course, means that if he drops out, the whole race could really turn into a big mess. But it would also mean that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who consistently polls behind Trump, would become the favorite to become the Republican nominee, Newsweek reports.

I hope Scaramucci is right. Millions of us would be thrilled if he dropped out, but as most of us know by now, Trump can be pretty bull-headed.

But talking to Cuomo about Trump’s indictment, which was released Friday, Scaramucci said: “I know President Trump’s personality reasonably well. Remember, it wasn’t just 11 days for me; it was 71 campaign stops and a full year’s worth of work. he does not like this. He is stressed about it. And I am going to say something contrarian on your show: I think he ends up eventually dropping out of the race.”

He elaborated on this by referring to Spiro Agnew, who served as Vice President during the Nixon administration. Agnew resigned from office to avoid prosecution after the Department of Justice uncovered evidence of his widespread corruption, including accepting bribes while Vice President.

And Scaramucci seems to know his political history.

“I think he [Trump] ends up coming up with some type of Spiro Agnew-like plea where he’s out, doesn’t go to jail. Something happens to him but not too significant. And I don’t think he makes it to the Iowa caucus,” he said. “So that’s a contrarian view.”

Trump was indicted on June 8 on 37 counts related to his alleged illegal transporting of classified documents to his Mar-a-Lago residence after leaving the White House and obstructing federal efforts to recover them. He keeps denying any wrongdoing and insists “I AM AN INNOCENT MAN” on his Truth Social platform.

And of course, there’s the whole Stormy Daniels imbroglio, where he was indicted on charges that he paid hush money to the adult film actress to keep quiet while the 2016 presidential campaign was in full swing. As per usual he denies this as he faces separate investigations into his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election result in Georgia and the January 6, 2021 Capitol insurrection.

Scaramucci joined Trump’s presidential transition team in November 2016 and ultimately became White House communications director for a short, ten-day stint before being fired. When that happened, he turned on Trump, joining the Right Side PAC in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election. Then he endorsed candidate Joe Biden.

So what does that tell you about Biden?

But I digress.

I hope Scaramucci’s prediction does come true and Trump drops out.

However, I’ll believe it when I see it.
