Michigan Hairdresser Bans Trans People From Her Salon, Suggests They See a ‘Pet Groomer’ Instead — Doesn’t End Well for Her

How did they think they were just going to kick out what could be their best clients?

Okay, full disclosure on this one: My girl is and has been for 30 years a hairdresser in a town where quite a few of the businesses are — let’s say “unfriendly” to the LGBTQ+ community. That’s already weird to me, because at some point, it just turns into you, as a business owner, cutting off your own nose to spite your face.

But one company has the right idea. After being alerted to a since-deleted Facebook post about who was welcome and who was not in her salon, Michigan hairdresser Christine Geiger was barred by the company Jack Winn Pro, a product line she’s been selling and promoting in her salon for years, from associating with the brand any further.

Along with many inflammatory comments in her post, she advised potential clients that “If a human identifies as anything other than a man/woman, please seek services at a local pet groomer.”

With the obligatory references to her conservative pedigree and being “anti-woke,” Geiger went on to make it clear that she believes the plus symbol commonly used to include further members of that community stands for “pedophiles.” Obviously, it does not, and Geiger needs to spend a little more time being informed and a little less time being opinionated.

In fact, in her public complaint, she said she has no problem serving lesbian, gay, or bisexual people, but she drew the line at the “TQ+” bit, making clear that she very specifically meant transgender people, people who are queer in a more general sense, and of course, the “plus” people, who she claimed were pedophiles and child groomers.

In a public statement made by Jack Winn Pro after being alerted to the post, they swung into action immediately on their Instagram account:

“It has come to our attention that disturbing comments have been attributed to one of our product users. We want to make it clear that we disapprove of and reject hate speech in any form. Such actions go against the very values we hold dear and strive to uphold. The stylist who made those comments no longer has authorization to represent our brand or products.”

We salute you, Jack Winn Pro, and welcome to being “woke,” which apparently just means “accepting people for who they are.” Let’s hope you’ve set an example for other brands as well.

And if you look through the comments on Jack Winn Pro’s IG statement, you will see Geiger is losing many of her FORMER clients.
