2024 Election

Retired Republican Judge Says Trump ‘Simply Can’t’ Win the 2024 Presidential Race

If Donald Trump thinks he’s going to win the 2024 presidential election, he’d better guess again, according to retired Republican judge Jim Jones on Monday, according to Newsweek.

Jones, in a column for The Hill, writes that the ex-president “simply can’t and won’t win another term,” and we certainly hope the good judge is correct.

Right now, however, he’s the overwhelming favorite to secure the GOP presidential nomination next year as he seeks to regain the White House. Polls of likely Republican voters show Trump garnering nearly 50 percent from fools, er I mean respondents. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, his nearest rival is well behind, polling at 20 percent.

Although many Republicans continue to be Trump’s lapdogs (they’re all competing for space), there are some who have questioned his viability as a candidate in 2024, considering his sizable loss to President Joe Biden and the lack of enthusiasm the electoral college has shown him, since he definitely foundered there. And Jones, who has served as Idaho’s attorney general from 1983 to 1991 and as a justice on the State’s Supreme Court from 2005 to 2017, expresses similar concerns in his op-ed, asserting his party is “following the playbook of those storied lemmings that rush to the edge of the cliff and throw themselves off in a suicidal frenzy.”

“The fact is that Trump simply can’t and won’t win another term,” Jones wrote. “He is wrong on the issues, he has no vision for a second term other than trying to establish an autocracy, and he will likely be convicted in one or more of the criminal cases that are currently in the works. The majority of American voters are still swayed by important issues, and Trump is wrong on most of them. Abortion extremism and gun safety will be major issues in 2024. Neither issue favors Trump and down-ballot Republicans.”

It’s still troubling, however, that Trump is doing so well in the polls. The election is well over a year away, which gives other Republicans time to play catch-up but if the Democrats don’t start paying attention, I still believe there’s a chance Trump could snatch the election from under their noses.

They’d better gin up their game.
