Woman Facing Felony Charges for Being a ‘Fake Elector’ Mocked Dems 2 Months Ago Because She Hadn’t Been Arrested Yet

One woman in Michigan recently charged with eight felonies stemming from part of a “fake elector” scheme in the 2020 presidential election had bragged on Twitter about not being arrested at the time.

Well, she’s going to have to take that one back.

In May, Meshawn Maddock, Michigan Republican Party co-chair had this to say on Twitter:

“Dems waiting for my arrest,” Maddock wrote, adding a GIF of a skeleton tapping its fingers, captioned with the word “WAITING.”

Suffice it to say Democrats are no longer waiting for her arrest.

On Tuesday, two months after her now-incorrect tweet, Maddock was one of 16 people charged by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, who all face eight felony counts for their alleged role to attempt to overturn the results of 2020’s presidential election by sending a fraudulent document that claimed then-President Donald Trump won the presidential race in the state, Insider reports. Even though he actually, really, lost by more than 150,000 votes.

“We allege that 16 Michigan residents met covertly in the basement of Michigan GOP headquarters and knowingly, of their own volition, signed statements that they were the duly elected and qualified electors for the president and vice president of the United States of America,” Nessel announced Tuesday. “That was a lie.”

A charging document in the fake elector case also alleges Maddock and the other 15 fake electors purposely took measures to keep the plot under wraps.

According to the document, two Michigan GOP staffers stood guarding the entrance to the party’s Lansing headquarters to make sure no one could enter, including, the staffers said, Maddock’s husband, Michigan state Rep. Matt Maddock, as well as a film crew.

And of course, in the aftermath of her arrest, Maddock has adamantly denied she and the others who were charged did anything wrong, claiming there was nothing secret about the group’s meeting in 2020.

“Secret meeting — no, there was no secret meeting,” Maddock said, per Fox2 Detroit. “These were Trump electors, duly elected Trump electors who met and it’s all very public. It was on Facebook. I haven’t taken anything down from that day. We met and we turned in paperwork. It was meant to be put alongside with the Democrat electors.”

I’m sure Nessel has other things to say about this. We already know all the stunts Trump and his allies used to try to pressure then-Vice President Mike Pence to toss the actual results from several states as he presided over Congress’s January 6, 2021 session to certify the election’s outcome.

I’m willing to bet that Maddock wishes she were still waiting to be arrested. And she and her cohorts did this for a man who almost certainly doesn’t care that they, like him, face the very real possibility of prison time. Trump only ever worries about Trump. It’s how he rolls.

What a bunch of fools Maddock and her colleagues were.
