CNN’s Dana Bash Laughs in Trump Lawyer’s Face After He Said Trump Had a ‘Peaceful Transfer of Power’

Admittedly, the attorneys defending Donald Trump don’t have an easy job. He’s volatile and completely unpredictable, and he keeps doing destructive, wrongful things. And even his legal team has admitted the truth on occasion, noting he actually did commit crimes he’s accused of doing. On Sunday, however, one of his lawyers bent the truth so much that it gave CNN’s Dana Bash a hearty laugh, Uproxx reports.

Here’s what Trump attorney John Lauro said, to Bash’s amusement:

LAURO: “The transfer of power was certainly peaceful.”

BASH: Did you see what happened on January 6?”

The Daily Beast reports that Lauro, who’s defending the former president in the case pertaining to Jan. 6, appeared on CNN Sunday morning to try and spin Trump’s alleged wrongdoing. He did have to admit Trump attempted a convoluted scheme that would involve then-Vice President Mike Pence declining to certify Joe Biden’s win. Fortunately, Pence rejected this and that’s when Lauro claimed “there was a peaceful transition of power.”

Bash found this hilarious and began laughing not only because of this ridiculous assertion but because he seemed to omit the violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6. She reminded him that “What happened on January 6 was not peaceful.”

“The transfer of power was certainly peaceful,” Lauro responded.

“Did you see what happened on January 6? Did that look peaceful?” Bash replied.

“I’m not saying that that was in any way appropriate,” Lauro said, “but the ultimate power of the presidency was transferred to Mr. Biden. We all know that as do you.”

Yes, Trump finally accepted his defeat, although he hot-footed it out of the White House before the Bidens moved in, breaking a longtime tradition in which the departing president welcomes their successor.

And Trump has continued to make a huge deal out of how Biden and Co. have done him wrong, continually whining and yelling baselessly that the election results were false.

Trump has kept Lauro on his toes, especially since his client seems to like making his own problems worse. Just like he did on Friday when he posted that threatening message to those who “go after me.” That message was widely interpreted to be directed at those prosecuting him in his third indictment. This did not sit well with special counsel Jack Smith, nor with Judge Tanya Chutkan, who’s presiding over this case. She’s absolutely not putting up with Trump’s nonsense, which means Lauro and his fellow attorneys will have to keep doing the round-robin of interviews, trying desperately to defend and spin their unruly client’s reckless and self-destructive actions.

Looks like they are going to be in for a fun time. Quite obviously their client never seems to learn and these next few months might prove to be as hilarious as Lauro’s fiasco with Bash.

Stay tuned.
