Trump Launches His New (and Unethical) Legal Defense Fund With a Major, Humiliating Error

Donald Trump’s legal defense fund went live Sunday and, as is typical when it comes to Trump and his team, there’s a glaring typo in the first heading.

“Support Donald Trumps Patriot Legal Defense Fund, the site proudly declared, sans necessary apostrophe ( or maybe they are trying to raise money for Donald Trumps everywhere).

But, as noted by Daily Beast, there’s more than a grammatical goof afoot here. There are some legal boundaries that team Trump appears to be pushing with the fund’s overt ties to his presidential campaign.

And indeed, there’s something hinky going on here, it seems.

Technically, the fund doesn’t coordinate with the campaign fundraising — its existence as a legal defense fund allows it to slide past the Federal Election Commission’s campaign finance rules. But if you click the “Donate Now” hyperlink, you find yourself sent directly to Trump’s 2024 campaign website, where of course, you’ll be begged for donation requests. The only other link on the fund’s page also directs you to the campaign site.

That’s stirring up eyebrow-raising ethical concerns, and Susie Wiles, a top campaign aide, is listed on the Patriot Legal Defense Fund’s incorporation documents.

Now that he’s dealing with three indictments — with more likely coming down the pike — Trump is being hit with massive legal fees.

He has no one to blame but himself for this, even though he’s blaming everyone anyway.

Quite obviously that fling with Stormy Daniels is going to cost much more than the $150,000 he allegedly gifted her, since he’s been charged by a New York grand jury in March for his purported role in the hush-money payments. Then there’s that indictment over allegedly mishandling of federal documents, and his hamfisted attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

He’s facing a likely fourth indictment in Fulton County for allegedly trying to interfere with the election, meaning Trump’s legal defense will have to shovel out more money. UPDATE: Fourth indictment is filed.

Just think how easily he could have avoided all of this. If he were an honest man, which he is not. He’s reaping what he sowed.
