Trump Plotting Trip to Capitol Hill NEXT WEEK to Discuss Being Speaker, With Son Eric Saying He’ll Require a Larger Gavel

It looks like former President Donald Trump might inflict himself on Capitol Hill by possibly appearing at the candidate forum during the battle for House Speaker Tuesday.

It’s already a big mess, why not add Donald Trump to further muddy the waters?

Trump is expected to drop in on Washington in between a campaign stop on Monday in New Hampshire and a campaign event in Palm Beach, Florida on Wednesday, The Daily Mail reports.

The twice-impeached, four-times indicted former president hasn’t ruled out pitching himself for the highest job in the House. Wednesday he even popped a meme of sitting in the speaker’s chair, giant gavel in hand after several of his allies in the House dragged his name into the mix.

And a sorry-looking mix it is.

If Trump does back a candidate in the race, this could be good news for Rep. Jim Jordan, who loves him some Trump he does. And Jordan has of course led the fight against the pretend “weaponization” of the Justice Department against Trump.

Jordan is competing against Majority Leader Republican Steve Scalise, after Kevin McCarthy was kicked out of the job Monday.

Like I said, this is a sorry-looking mix.

And there’s the usual brigade of idiots who believe Trump would make a dandy House speaker. Because there’s no rule that says the speaker must be a member of the House.

“If Trump becomes Speaker of the House, the House chamber will be like a Trump rally everyday!!” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) exulted on X. “It would be the House of MAGA!!!”

According to Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), Trump coming to the forum will help “unify” Republicans around a candidate.

Maybe in the same way he united an angry mob to attack the Capitol? That doesn’t seem to be what Burchett is suggesting, but he did “unify” those people after all.

“I think what he’ll do is he’ll come in there to unify us, tell us to get behind somebody else.”

Well, maybe. But Trump is usually all Trump, all the time.

The GOP conference, currently helmed by interim Speaker Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), has to agree to allow the ex-president to attend.

It’s not likely the GOP will bar Trump from the forum, but there are likely some Republicans who won’t be happy to see him because they don’t believe he’ll bring the House back into order.

“Trump at the candidate forum would only make a tumultuous situation worse,” one senior House GOP aide told DailyMail.com. “Anyone who thinks he has any chance of becoming speaker is an unserious lawmaker interested only in media attention and social media engagement.”

Then there’s also the matter of House GOP conference rules, which state that no one who has been indicted for a felony can serve in leadership. Trump has been indicted four times. The dumb thing here, however, is that there’s the chance Trump could try to be Speaker but not a member of the House GOP conference. This isn’t likely because the chances he’d be elected speaker aren’t good, and Trump has already been clear that he’s focused on the presidential race.

The vote to oust McCarthy was a historic one that was brought forth by GOP. Rep. Matt Gaetz (Florida.) He, of course, is a Trump loyalist and said he talked to the former president by phone during McCarthy’s final days in office. Gaetz has since indicated that Trump supported his efforts, but Trump also posted on social media, asking why Republicans were fighting each other instead of President Joe Biden, perhaps urging the GOP to cut it out.

“Why is it that Republicans are always fighting among themselves, why aren’t they fighting the Radical Left Democrats who are destroying our Country?” he posted.

The move to oust McCarthy began when eight Republicans sided with all Democrats to push him out. This means McCarthy is the shortest-lived speaker in 140 years and the first one to ever be pushed out smack in the middle of his term.

And son Eric Trump is totally on board for his father being speaker, with one requirement. He would need a much bigger gavel, not the little gavel the current Speaker uses. Of course Eric doesn’t realize the regular gavel will already look giant in Trump’s tiny hands, and he might struggle with a larger one.

Clearly the House is imploding and it’s kind of fun to watch the Republicans eat each other alive.
