When Trump Introduced Niece Mary to Melania, He Lied and Told Melania That Mary Was a Drug Addict

I’ve been re-reading Mary Trump’s book about her family and famous uncle, and it’s truly is a treasure trove of sick information. The book, “Too Much and Never Enough, How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man” was released in 2020, and really is an incredibly look into Donald Trump’s life, written by someone who has known him her whole life.

Mary Trump doesn’t mention Melania much in the book…in fact I think she only gets 2 pages where she’s mentioned. But one mention is where Melania was introduced to the family. Donald brought Melania, who was 28 at the time, to a family gathering in Trump Tower in June of that year for a Father’s Day meal.

In the book, Mary writes that her uncle, Robert Trump, noted that Melania barely spoke.

“Melania was five years younger than I was. She sat slightly sideways next to Donald with her ankles crossed,” Mary wrote. “I was struck by how smooth she looked.”

When Mary suggested that Melania was keeping quiet because she didn’t speak much English, Robert apparently said: “No, she knows what she’s here for.”

At the time of the family gathering, Donald was married but separated from his second wife, Marla Maples; the two didn’t divorce until June 1999. Trump married then-Melania Knauss, a Slovenia model, in January 2005, and welcomed their son, Barron, in March 2006. Of course as we’ve learned the spring of 2006 was a busy time for Donald who had affairs with both Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal, both while Melania was home nursing Barron. Actually, we don’t know if Melania nursed Barron. She does love her son and seems like the type who would nurse. She also seems like the type to get a wet nurse, so her boobs wouldn’t have to suffer the dreaded sag after nursing, so who knows.

Mary Trump described Donald’s apartment in Trump Tower as “even colder and less like a home” than the Trump family house in the Queens borough of New York City.

She said that as the family chatted during their meal, Donald said Mary “dropped out of college,” which the niece said was true. Mary claimed Donald went on to claim his niece’s behavior “was really bad for a while” and alleged she “started doing drugs” — which Mary disputed.

At that point, Mary said Melania asked, “Really?” to which Donald went on that Mary was a “total disaster.”

Mary said that Melania was suddenly interested.

“No, no, no. I’ve never done drugs in my life,” Mary said.

And for the record, while Mary had dropped out of college, she later got her Bachelor’s at Tuft’s, her Master’s at Columbia and her PhD at Adelphi University. Quite a bit more than the half of a semester of college that Melania had.

From the book:

He slid me a look and smiled. He was embellishing the story for effect, and he knew I knew it. “She was a total disaster,” he said, smiling more broadly. Donald loved comeback stories, and he understood that the deeper the hole you crawled out of, the better billing your triumphant comeback would get. Which was exactly how he experienced his own jour-ney. By conflating my dropping out of college and his hiring me to write his book (while throwing in a fictional drug addiction), he concocted a better story that somehow had him playing the role of my savior.

Of course, between my dropping out of school and his hiring me, I’d dropped back into school, graduated, and gotten a master’s degree —all without taking any drugs at all. There was no point in setting the record straight, however; there never was with him. The story was for his benefit as much as anybody else’s, and by the time the doorbell rang, he probably already believed his version of events. When the three of us rose to greet the new guests, I realized that Melania had said only one word during our time together.

Nice, huh? Here you can hear it in Mary’s own words on the Rachel Maddox show:
