‘We Speak English Here’: Lara Trump Furious Over Spanish Immigrants ‘Flooding’ the Country

This again?

Lara Trump can’t seem to find another outlet that will host her besides the right-wing network Newsmax, and their host Eric Bolling. Maybe that’s because she’s the same kind of talking point parrot that regularly appears on lesser-known networks like Newsmax or RSBN.

Regardless, she was back on his program, and as their conversation progressed, it turned toward the immigration “crisis” and took on the same general sense that it always does when two conservatives discuss brown people.

Now, I don’t know how many people understand that, for example, the population of Pennsylvania at the time of the writing of the US Constitution was about 37 percent German. That meant the state ordered copies for constituents to read in English and in German. There were roughly 3,000 copies in English, and about 1,500 in German.

In other words, we’ve been accommodating non-English languages in America since before it was America.

And yet you have Lara Trump and Eric Bolling talking about what language “we” speak here in America. Specifically, Lara is upset that so many things are in Spanish. About 13 percent of America speaks Spanish as a first language, and another 4.5 percent speak Spanish as a second language.

Also, there’s never been a law declaring an “official” language in this country.

“You have to be part of a society whenever you, you know, become a citizen of another country, and I think, you know, people are starting to see in a lot of even school systems right now where they’re teaching things in English, and they’re teaching them in Spanish, because we have had so many people coming from South America, from Central America, from Mexico and just kind of flooding our education system that they have to have a way to teach these kids. I mean, this is the United States of America, we speak English here, but you go anywhere in this country, Eric, and you’ll find everything in English, you also find it in Spanish,” Lara Trump stated.

As much as it pains conservatives, the idea that “we” speak English in America is based entirely on white supremacy and racism. The problem of racism isn’t going away any time soon, either.

At a recent town hall here in the town where I live, candidates for director of the school board were answering questions. One was a woman named Maria, the other a man named Randy. When a constituent got up and asked a question in Spanish and English, Maria answered her in both Spanish and English. I personally love having that skill (I speak Spanish fluently as well).

But Randy got up and demanded to know why she had answered the question in Spanish.

Dear Randy Smith and Lara Trump: Speaking another language is a good thing. You should try it sometime.

Yes, Lara. You do also find it in Spanish. Someone might need it that way.
