Top Conservative Attorney Says Trump Will Face a MAJOR Obstacle at the SCOTUS Over Ballot Issue

The Republican lawyer has an excellent point.

George Conway, the former husband of Donald Trump’s top aide Kellyanne Conway, is not known for his love of Trump. In fact, he’s been a critic throughout his presidency and well after.

The thing is, George is a Republican.

That makes him uniquely qualified to come at Trump from his own side. And, being a conservative, his aims can’t be questioned as partisan.

That’s why his message on MSNBC’s Katie Phang Show in a recent appearance holds so much weight: He both knows the law and is non-partisan in this matter.

Maine and Colorado have already eliminated Trump from the primary ballots there, owing to the text of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. That states that anyone who is involved in an insurrection against the United States is forever barred from holding public office.

Trump, of course, has challenged the Colorado Supreme Court decision (and complained pretty loudly about Maine), and now America’s highest court is scheduled to hear the case.

Speaking to his host, Conway explained what could be in store for Trump:

We read the text of the statutes, we read the text of the Constitution and we try to interpret the words as they were understood when those words were written.

And that’s the problem that Donald Trump has here is that the words are very simple and very clear, and in fact, they are clearer than other provisions of the 14th Amendment … Section III is rather narrow. It’s not hard to know what an insurrection is. It’s not hard to define an insurrection and not many people engage in insurrection. So, it’s really not a difficult, difficult provision to understand or to enforce.

Despite the fact that Trump partnered with Mitch McConnell to pack the SCOTUS with conservative judges, there have been a number of times in cases concerning Trump where they have not sided with him. That includes his pleas to the court to overturn the 2020 election.

I would personally add that besides Conway’s compelling statement, this last factor could be the biggest obstacle of all for the former president. The fact that SCOTUS has a 6-3 conservative majority and still isn’t in lockstep with him could make for an absolute disaster.
