Trump Has No Shame and Promotes His Rallies on Anniversary of January 6th

Saturday will be the third anniversary of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol building, and you’d think Donald Trump and his campaign minions might hold a day of silence. You know, maybe in remembrance of the people who lost their lives because he refused to accept the results of a fair and legal presidential election that he didn’t win. But no, that’s not how he rolls.

No, instead on that sad day, Trump is scheduled to hold a pair of campaign events in Iowa, Newsweek reports. Indeed, the ex-president, currently the frontrunner in the GOP primary, will be holding rallies in Newton at 1 p.m. on January 6 and then headlining an event in Clinton at 4 p.m. on the same day, the third anniversary of the failed siege. He shared details about the event on Truth Social.

The rallies will take place ahead of the Iowa caucus on January 15 and it’s the first of several that will be held throughout the country. A recent NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll shows Trump has 51 percent first-choice support among Iowans likely to attend the caucus. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is seriously behind, with 19 percent, and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley at 16 percent.

Unsurprisingly, Trump’s campaign failed to mention that the dates of the rallies coincide with the January 6 attack when announcing their details. They never referenced the people who died, nor did they mention that more than 1200 people have been charged in connection with the attack because they supported The Big Lie. Out of those charged, 440 are accused of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees, while 120 people have been charged with using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury to an officer. Oh, and four have admitted to a charge of seditious conspiracy.

And of course, we already know Trump and Special Counsel Jack Smith have a special relationship, if not a particularly fond one.

On top of that, intelligent lawmakers in the states of Maine and Colorado (excluding Lauren Boebert) successfully drafted legislation that has barred Trump from running for office, having ruled that the ex-president violated the Constitution’s insurrection clause since he openly encouraged the January 6 attack. Trump, who files appeals at astonishingly high rates and never seems to learn from them, is also appealing these decisions.

Now here’s the part where I suggest that some Republicans in Iowa are perhaps, a bit dense. Perhaps. I have a hard time believing anyone could forget such an awful day, but that’s me. One GOPer, Thad Nearmyer, who chairs the Jasper County, Iowa Republican Party said that he didn’t think much about Trump holding rallies on January 6.

“And then a little bit later it kind of occurred to me that that date has some significance,” he told The Daily Beast.

Gee, ya think?

But he also said he believes the attack on the Capitol nearly three years ago “wasn’t nearly as big of a deal as it was made out to be.”

Naw, it weren’t no big deal. It only cost taxpayers $2.7 billion according to the Government Accountability Office. Just hold a few bake sales Ma and we’ll do right fine.

And I’m just curious here — does anyone really think Trump cares that the disaster he caused is this costly? Of course not. It could cost $2.7 trillion and he wouldn’t be the least bit concerned.

MAGA Republicans haven’t figured that one out yet. And his campaign team continues to add more gold leaf to this already gold-plaited turd.

“His administration cut 8 regulations for every new rule, including Barack Obama’s Waters of the United States rule that imposed federal restrictions on much of Iowa farmland,” his campaign team crowed. “President Trump slashed the estate tax, or death tax, to allow Iowa farmers to keep farms in the family.”

Doing a stint at the Clinton Middle School later that day, the campaign team announced the rally by lauding Trump’s bravery (apparently forgetting he had been known to hide in the White House bunker at times).

“President Trump stood up to China like never before, rebalancing our trade relationship and bringing in hundreds of billions of dollars from China. When China targeted America’s farmers, President Trump provided $28 billion dollars in relief.”

Really, Mr. (former) president, do you sass Putin with that same mouth?

I’m sorry. I couldn’t resist. Any comments from the Trump team about his “successes” brings out the snark in me. No one will ever convince me that this man’s presidency wasn’t a dark time in American history. When you’re so desperate to remain in the White House after every bit of credible, factual evidence shows that you’ve lost, you really don’t deserve respect.
