Political Analyst Thinks Trump Will Pick One of His Kids to Be His VP — And You Won’t Believe Which One

YIKES.

Conservative Charlie Sykes and Dr. Jason Johnson made up a panel on MSNBC on Tuesday where neither expressed surprise or doubt when the topic of nepotism came up.

Talking about another Trump term, they discussed the possibility that Donald might nominate Lara Trump, his son Eric’s wife, to head up the RNC.

The two were basically on the same page:

Johnson: Look, I’ve said this for years. I’ll repeat this: You don’t have a Republican Party anymore. It’s a terrorist organization called MAGA. This is part of it. When you have someone who is not an elected official, who was voted out of office, who is basically taking the entire infrastructure of what used to be a party and turned it into his own sort of family affair, you don’t really have a functional party anymore.

Sykes: It is not surprising that he is reaching out to family members. I’ve speculated half-seriously if Donald Trump had his way for a selection of V.P. nominees, he would choose a member of his own family, choose Ivanka, or Don Jr., because he wants this to be a family business. He wants this to be a dynasty.

Johnson: That’s probably what he’ll end up doing. Eric Trump is not that busy. Jared’s not that busy. They’re not selling state secrets. It’s highly likely Trump will pick somebody he likes. Automatic if that is ultimately dangerous.

But as the two discuss in the video below, the problem isn’t entirely that the people Trump picks might be incompetent. The problem could be one for Republicans, and for the ages.

If Donald Trump picks someone like Lara Trump — fresh off her unauthorized cover of a song by an American icon who hated everything she stands for — to lead the RNC, or picks a family member to be VP, it would prove something pretty serious.

It would prove that his ultimate goal is total loyalty, not any kind of decent governance. It would prove that his only goal is power and complete control. It would prove that he is the dictator that he keeps warning his followers the Democrats are trying to field.
