Surprise, Surprise: Melania Trump Was the Laziest First Lady in American History, ‘Often Checked-Out and Exhausted’
There are those of us who feel that the fact that Donald Trump was president for even one day was too much. It seems as if First Lady Melania Trump may have felt the same way. There were periods where she seemed to vanish and no one knew where she was. Then she’d show up again, at the White House or Mar-a-Lago. Or sometimes in her beloved Manhattan. Last weekend The New York Times published a very unflattering comparison between Melania and current First Lady Jill Biden. The report alleges Melania spent so little time in her office that staff began using it as a “gift wrapping room.”
White House reporter Katie Rogers compared the differing roles the two first ladies prepared for, and she found that the two women are a “study in contrasts,” Queerty reports. That’s the New York Times’ way of saying Melania Trump is lazy and accomplished nothing, while Dr. Jill cares about her job and works her ass off to serve the American people theist she can.
When Jill Biden was preparing to move into the White House after her husband Joe Biden became president in 2020, Melania “had taken to wearing terry cloth bathrobes during the day sorting through an office aides referred to as her ‘swag room,’ a locked room filled with key chains, crystal bookends and other trinkets from her time at the White House.”
You see, Melania wasn’t going to just leave that swag, she wanted to make sure she gave it away to her family and friends.
Jill Biden, on the other hand, was planning the best ways to serve in the role of First Lady. “Over four years, Mrs. Trump showed how pretty much every aspect of being first lady, which carries no salary no formal description, is optional.”

Roger’s story details the weeks leading up to the January 20, 2021 inauguration of Joe Biden. Apparently, Dr. Biden wanted to continue her full-time teaching career but this is something her husband disagreed with.
Donald and Melania Trump were a pretty big contrast to this, Rogers tells us. “On Jan. 6, 2021, Donald J. Trump wanted to stay in the White House.” As we all, quite tragically, found out.
Melania, however, wanted to go home.
“For months, Mrs. Trump had taken to walking around the Executive Residence in hotel-style terry cloth robes.”
Sure Melania is grifty and reclusive at the same time, I can’t fault her for wanting to get the hell out of dodge. She’s always made it clear that she doesn’t like being in the public eye, and Rogers writes, “According to several former aides, Mrs. Trump had visited the East Wing, where the first lady has an official office and staff, so infrequently that her empty office had been converted into a gift-wrapping room.” And “The White House Military Office, sensing an opportunity to claim coveted White House territory, converted part of the unused East Wing into a secure communications facility.”
Other aides who talked to Melania said she appeared checked out and exhausted. A spokesman for the former first lady told the Times that its account of her final days in office was full of “misinformation.” But the Times responded by saying its comparison of the First Ladies is relevant since it’s likely that Trump and Biden will go head-to-head in the upcoming election.
Now Melania seems to be missing in action and has not shown up at any of her husband’s recent campaign rallies. She has appeared at a pair of events held at Mar-a-Lago. And her final days at the White House were spent taking an inventory of things she’d been given over the past four years because she wanted to pass some of the treasures on to friends and family.
Social media users were not surprised by this.
New York Times portrays Melania Trump as one of the laziest, most disengaged First Ladies ever:
“Jill Biden wanted to keep teaching. Melania Trump just wanted to go home.”

My hope is that Dr. Biden uses her 2nd term as First Lady to restore the Rose Garden, eliminating any vestige of the laziest & most selfish First Lady in our history.

Her debut at the Republican convention in 2016, where she unashamedly plagiarized Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech and provided no later credible excuse or apology, was a precursor of both her low energy and mulish attitude towards a position she could care less about.

I don’t know why any of this is surprising. Melania has always made it clear she doesn’t like the spotlight. Now we have Jill Biden, who is warm and personable whereas the former first lady has always been diffident. She’s always been this way. It’s not surprising she was rarely in her office. Dr. Biden has always seemed to have a purpose whereas the one characteristic she shares with her bombastic husband is that she’s all about herself. In some ways, they are two peas in a pod and we might get stuck with them again.
Unfortunately.
