New Op-Ed Claims Trump is One of the Smartest Presidents in U.S. History — Let’s Take a Look at That

A new op-ed from The Hill has this unbelievable title: Is Donald Trump one of the smartest presidents in US history?

I know, I am laughing too.

The writer, Douglas MacKinnon, is a former writer for the White House for Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, and obviously now a sycophant for Donald Trump.

The op-ed mainly rails against the new book, A Very Stable Genius: Donald J. Trump’s Testing of America, which is currently the #1 book in the country, which was written by two Pulitzer Prize winning journalists.

MacKinnon then whines, “That same publicity does not acknowledge that only liberals now typically win Pulitzers, Nobel Prizes, Oscars or Emmys. But then, that would detract from the purpose of the book — which is to weaken, belittle and even smear the president.”

Remember, it was Donald Trump who called himself a stable genius.

Said the president, in part, two years ago, “Now that Russian collusion, after one year of intense study, has proven to be a total hoax on the American public, the Democrats and their lapdogs, the Fake News Mainstream Media, are taking out the old Ronald Reagan playbook and screaming mental stability and intelligence. Actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart. … I went from VERY successful businessman, to top T.V. Star … to President of the United States (on my first try). I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius … and a very stable genius at that!”

Then MacKinnon says, “That said, the president’s tweet and this subsequent book title raise a legitimate question that will create a very loud, rage-filled debate: Is Donald J. Trump one of the smartest presidents in U.S. history?”

The writer then goes on to discuss intellectual genius, and notes that former presidents Thomas Jefferson and Bill Clinton are obviously top of that list.

But then MacKinnon tries to change the definition of “smart.”

If the definition of “smart,” at least for this purpose, folds in raw intelligence, street smarts, intuition, real-world experience, business success, job creation, wealth creation, a fighter’s instinct, and knowing when to roll the dice or to bluff, then Trump might stand relatively high on the presidential “smarts” pyramid.

MacKinnon continued: “Just the fact that he got himself elected president of the United States on his “first try,” as he says — on his own, against all odds, as an outsider with zero political experience, amid ridicule and attacks by both political parties, the mainstream media, Hollywood and academia — should get Trump honorable mention for top billing.”

Uh no, that is not how it works.

If Trump was truly such a smart man, why did he threaten his former schools and universities to not release his grades?

Would a smart man invent the name of a new country?

Speaking before African leaders at the United Nations in September 2017, Trump twice referred to the made up country of “Nambia.”

“Nambia’s health system is increasingly self-sufficient,” he said at one point.

People wondered whether he meant to say Namibia, Zambia, or Gambia. “Nambia” is not a country.

Would a smart man call Belgium “a beautiful city”.

While still a candidate, Trump described life in different places in Europe at a campaign stop in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Belgium is a beautiful city,” he boldly declared in June 2016. Just a few months earlier, he had called Brussels a “hellhole.”

Belgium is a country of about 11 million in western Europe. Brussels is the capital of Belgium.

In October, Trump claimed the border wall was being built in Colorado, which is not a border state. Would a smart man do that?

There is even a rumor that Trump thinks the word “Genius” begins with a “J”.

I couldn’t literally go on and on with proof that Trump is not a smart man.

MacKinnon ends his op-ed (which obviously has an audience of one) this way:

“This “Very Stable Genius” is up for reelection in November. Most likely, those who dislike the man who has continually beaten the odds and the predictions of failure will have to try to beat him at the ballot box and not with doomed-to-failure political tricks.”

And people, that could very well be true.

So make sure you’e registered to vote. Then, make sure your friends are registered to vote. Don’t bicker with fellow Democrats over the eventual candidate. I’m not a huge fan of Bernie Sanders. But if the man wins the nomination I will become the biggest Bernie supporter you’ve ever seen.

We cannot let this man win another 4 years.
