NFL Quarterback Says That Guns Should Be Very Expensive So Only ‘Elite White People’ Can Afford Them

A Buffalo Bills quarterback is apologizing Thursday for past racist text messages where he suggested that firearms should be made expensive so that only “elite white people” can buy them. The messages emerged online and the former quarterback for the University of Georgia is now doing damage control.

In the newly revealed messages, Jake Fromm said that guns were “good” and added, “just make them very expensive so only elite white people can get them haha.” Apparently Fromm sent the messages in March 2019 when he was still playing for the University of Georgia, The Hill reports.

Now, of course, he’s taken to Twitter Thursday, saying he’s “extremely sorry” for his choice of words in the text message.

“Although I never meant to imply that I am an elite white person,’ as stated later in the conversation, there’s no excuse for that word choice and sentiment,” he wrote. “While it is poor, my heart is not.”

Trouble is, he actually, really is an ‘elite white person.’ He’s a total hypocrite who would not have apologized if this message hadn’t been revealed. And now that he’s been found out, he’s claiming he’ll fight against racism, which is good, but would he have done this if his text message was ignored?

“Now, more than ever, is the time for support and togetherness and I stand against racism 100 percent,” he added. “I promise to commit myself to being a part of the solution in this country.”

And now he’s hoping his coaches and teammates will look beyond this.

“I addressed my teammates and coaches in a team meeting today and I hope they see this incident is not representative of the person I am. Again, I’m truly sorry for my words and actions and humbly ask for forgiveness,” he said in conclusion.

This comes just one day after New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees’ dumb comment that he doesn’t like seeing “anybody disrespecting the flag” in response to being questioned about NFL players kneeling in the wake of nationwide protests over the police custody death of George Floyd.

“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country.”

Brees has since apologized for his comments, but it rings hollow to me. Once these comments are out there, the damage is done. And while I fully believe in freedom of speech, it makes me wish some people had an “off” button.
