Wow, in the course of a single day, the war between Cong. Trump-kryptonite Adam Schiff and the Donald has escalated remarkably.

This is not normal, by the way. It has become normal in the Trump administration. But even as Mitch McConnell and John Boehner blasted Obama, it was never personal. Indeed Obama and Boehner actually became pretty close as friends.

This is new. This type of viperous public attack by a president against a respected member of Congress, is not at all normal. It is easy to lose track of the fact that the man who just referred to himself as the “chief law enforcement officer of the nation” is accusing Adam Schiff of a felony – publicly. As I said, not normal.

Out of the friggin’ blue, Trump started blasting Schiff as the man who leaked the fact that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence had determined that Russia was already working on Trump’s behalf to help Trump win the 2020 election.

Most unbelievably, Trump accused Schiff of leaking intelligence, on which Trump had yet to be briefed. Trump wants you to believe that both Adam Schiff and Bernie Sanders (along with Republicans on the House committee) were somehow briefed on the subject of Russian election interference, but not him.

Whatever you say, Biff.

Right about now you’re understanding why Trump is purging everyone within the White House and National Security Council (the White House center for CIA, FBI, NSA, NRO and Pentagon) who is not 100% loyal to Trump first, last, and always. Because it only takes one person to walk out of the office, onto Pennsylvania Avenue, gather up a dozen reporters, and have her say:

“The President is lying his ass off once again. I personally gave the briefing to the President, this man is my aide who was there and has the records. I will not discuss the contents of the briefing, but I believe it important to say that the President is lying in stating that he had never had the briefing.”

Instead, a lot of MAGA heads will be thinking that indeed somehow the DNI would leave the president in the dark, such a “deepy-statey” thing to do, while reporting in to Republicans in the House. It doesn’t even make any sense saying it out loud, which means it’s perfect MAGA-head logic.

All of which, I suppose, is why Adam Schiff had such an easy time knocking Trump’s softball into the upper deck:

“Nice deflection, Mr. President. But your false claims fool no one. You welcomed Russian help in 2016, tried to coerce Ukraine’s help in 2019, and won’t protect our elections in 2020. Now you fired your intel chief for briefing Congress about it. You’ve betrayed America. Again.”

Actually, Congressman, they fool a lot of people, that’s why they’re called fools, and they all follow Trump. But Congressman Schiff is correct in stating that Trump has betrayed America yet again.

The amazing thing is that Trump is accusing a prominent congressman of committing a felony, and no one acts as if it’s at all surprising, or unusual. It is unusual, it not at all normal or healthy. But the fact that no one is really reacting or making a big deal of it? It means that everyone knows Trump is lying.

As usual.
