Kellyanne Conway Announces She’s Leaving the White House and People Have Some Serious Thoughts
Kellyanne Conway announced tonight that she would be leaving the White House at the end of the month to “focus on my family.” At the same time, George Conway announced on Twitter that he would be leaving the Lincoln Project and taking a Twitter hiatus.
Kellyanne wrote:
I will be transitioning from the White House at the end of this month. George is also making changes. We disagree about plenty but we are united on what matters most: the kids. Our four children are teens and ‘tweens starting a new academic year, in middle school and high school, remotely from home for at least a few months. As millions of parents nationwide know, kids “doing school from home” requires a level of attention and vigilance that is as unusual as these times.
George Conway tweeted:
So I’m withdrawing from @ProjectLincoln to devote more time to family matters. And I’ll be taking a Twitter hiatus.
Needless to say, I continue to support the Lincoln Project and its mission. Passionately.

We wrote earlier today about The Today Show reporting that daughter Claudia intended to seek “emancipation” from the couple. We noted that – in our view – it was irresponsible of the Today Show to “report” on Claudia Conway’s tweets as if they had serious legal ramifications and that her father (and her mother) have given every indication that they support Claudia and would protect her at all costs. Claudia’s views seem primarily political as she never claimed to be abused in any way.
The family’s dynamic invited intense scrutiny and fascination. Kellyanne Conway was one of Trump’s most shameless apologists, always finding some way to support Trump’s worst actions. Meanwhile, George Conway contributed profound essays on Trump’s unfitness for office and was a founding member of the Lincoln Project, an organization formed by Republicans to defeat Trump. The country couldn’t help but be fascinated that such a couple could exist. When Claudia burst on the scene, the precocious fifteen-year-old became a sensation as she ripped at Trump.
But as regular readers will note, there was always a sadness to the Claudia issue. One could sense the net and media exploiting her and see Claudia’s pain, pain familiar to many adolescents growing up frustrated by parents and the world. Watching Twitter followers attack Claudia or back her with faux concern out of spite for her mother was terribly difficult.
Now it would appear that George and Kellyanne have decided to put Claudia ahead of Trump and even the race against Trump. This is the right move for them to make. One could sense that Claudia was slipping away and that her politically-polarized parents made it that much more difficult on a child growing up in the DC area. We at this site were always proudly on Claudia’s side and are happy to hear of the development. We often noted that her parents were in the best position to address her concerns and that we were confident that they would.
It appears they are doing so. It is wonderful to report good news for Claudia.
Twitter also had some important thoughts:

Claudia Conway took down Kellyanne Conway and her grifter father. For everyone that is treating her as a misguided child, she is not. She saw the hypocrisy and immorality within her own family structure and spoke out. That takes a lot courage.

KellyAnne Conway’s daughter did a huge service to America.

I'm glad that KellyAnne Conway and her brave husband @gtconway3d are taking this time to put their family first.
Claudia Conway did this nation a huge service by prying her mother, Trump's Minister of Lies, out of the White House.

Some people with a whole lot more decency than I are pulling back their insults on Kellyanne and recognizing her for focusing on her family.
I’ll just say it like it is, she’s a lying piece of shit and complicit in countless crimes committed by the admin. Fuck her.

And this mini-thread is excellent:
Kellyanne Conway has been the chief propagandist for a White House that has inflicted enormous suffering and laid out a white supremacist worldview as a governing vision. She will go down in history as the leading apologist for unmitigated hatred as public policy.

And yet, with all that clear as day, Kellyanne Conway will still hold significant influence in conservative political circles and be invited to speak in mainstream news spaces without ever having been held accountable for the suffering she has directly enabled and defended.

Those of you feeling sorry for Kellyanne Conway and her family should ask yourselves why you’re so willing to offer even a modicum of sympathy for someone who truly does not give a single damn whether you live or die.
