Jim Acosta Reports that There’s a Big Fight in Trump World Over the Next Step…and Trump is Digging In

Jim Acosta is out with a bit of a disconcerting tweet.

First, have no doubt, everyone in team Trump knows that they lost the election, every single one. The strategy is about whether to gracefully accept it and persuade Trump to save money and resources (that will definitely be needed later) by gracefully conceding, or do as Trump wants to do and fight this out until the electors meet in December.

That “wait until December” thing scares some of us because we worry that Trump is going to use the nuclear option, where he asks Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin to have their legislature ignore their voters and send their own electors to Washington DC – thus allowing him to have over 270 electors, with Biden under 270 – making Trump the president according to the electoral college, and it would be 100% legal.

Acosta doesn’t mention any of this in his tweet because it’s not spoken about – not aloud at least – very much. It is well known that if you had such a plan, you sure as hell wouldn’t want people talking about it for a long time beforehand. And there is no guarantee that the Republican legislatures in those states would go along with it.

Trump is digging in. That won’t surprise anyone. Trump isn’t going to concede just because he lost the election. He is going to somehow take this to the SCOTUS (He didn’t appoint 3 justices for nothing!) or he’s going to manipulate the electoral college, he’ll do something. One thing he is not going to do is pick up the phone and call Joe Biden and say, “Nicely done, Mr. President. We will help in every way possible to ensure a smooth secession of power.”

That’s the one thing we know won’t happen.
