Jim Jordan Gets all Giddy Thinking About How Republicans Could Impeach Merrick Garland If They Take Congress

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is suggesting Republicans could impeach Attorney General Merrick Garland if Republicans regain the majority in Congress, Newsweek reports.

During an interview with Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt Thursday, Jordan claimed there were grounds for impeachment because Garland refused to prosecute protesters who picketed outside the homes of Supreme Court justices.

In the lead-up and the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the abortion ruling Roe v. Wade, protesters held demonstrations in front of the Supreme Court and at the homes of some of the justices.

The protesters’ actions have been criticized by politicians like Ted Cruz, who drew comparisons to them and the “tens of thousands of people peacefully protesting” during the attempted and decidedly NOT “peaceful” insurrection at the Capitol building on January 6, 2021. But understanding reality has never been “Cancun” Ted’s stronger suit now has it?

Jim Jordan loves to try to “own the libs” but always fails.

Republicans are whipping up optimism that they will make important gains in the House and Senate as the midterm elections loom, hoping to flip enough seats to regain both chambers.

Newsweek reports that the party in the White House “almost always sees losses in the midterm elections, especially the first ones they encounter.”

“I think everything is on the table, we have got to take our message to the American people and not get overconfident but campaign in a confident way, win back the majority,” Jordan said. “If the country gives us the majority in the House, I think everything should be on the table.”

Then he focused on concerns surrounding protesters demonstrating outside the homes of the justices.

“You have a statute on the book that says ‘if protesters are at Supreme justices’ homes trying to impact and influence a decision, that is against the law,” Jordan said.

“18 U.S. Code section 1507, [Merrick Garland] refuses to prosecute any of these protesters, confirming something that I think is very scary.”

Seems a bit funny he wasn’t worried about that when all those “protesters” stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021. But this is GOP hypocrisy in action.

But for anyone who’s curious, the U.S. Code Jordan was referring to, U.S. Code Section 1507, is titled Picketing or Parading and it goes into a fair amount of detail regarding the rules it pertains to.

“Whoever, with the intent of interfering with, obstructing, or impeding the administration of justice, or with the intent of influencing any judge, juror, witness, or court officer, in the discharge of his duty, pickets or parades in or near a building housing a court of the United States, or in or near a building or residence occupied or used by such judge, juror, witness, or court officer, or with with such intent uses any sound-truck or similar device or resorts to any other demonstration in or near any such building or residence shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.”

“Nothing in this section shall interfere with or prevent the exercise by any court of the United States of its power to punish for contempt.”

Jordan elaborated on why he was concerned about Garland’s not prosecuting the demonstrators.

“We now have one of the key agencies in the executive branch joining in the effort to intimidate a separate and equal branch of government, the judicial branch,” he said. “That is scary when that kind of stuff goes on but that is certainly what it looks like. This is one of the reasons so many people have concerns.”

And it sounds like Garland isn’t the only Biden administration official the Republicans may be gunning for. MSNBC reports House Republicans are “laying the groundwork” to push for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alex Mayorkas. Apparently, some Republicans are still discontented with the Biden administration’s handling of the immigration situation along the U.S./Mexico border.

This is what we have to look forward to if the Republicans clean house in the 2022 midterms. And if they do, we can look forward to two or more years of gridlock.
