2024 Election

Fox News Talking Head is Now Openly Begging Trump Not to Run in 2024

Sports commentator Michele Tafoya, who typically leans right, asked former President Donald Trump not to run for president again in 2024 during an appearance on Fox News where she was part of a panel discussing Trump’s impact on the midterm 2022 elections.

Tafoya appeared early Thursday on Outnumbered when the show did a segment on the right-wing media outlets that blame Trump for the GOP’s failure to live up to the expected “red wave” takeover, Mediaite reports. While former Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) wasn’t on board with the premise, Kennedy said she thinks that while voters approve of Trump on policy issues, they would prefer to do “without the distraction of his personality.” She also acknowledged that many voters see Florida Governor as “the future” of the Republican Party.

Kayleigh McEnany, Trump’s former White House press secretary also weighed in, having recently pressed him to delay announcing another bid for the presidency. She argued that in regard to the GOP debacle, “blaming any one person is simplistic.” McEnany also criticized the media for focusing so much on Trump 2024 and then went back to discussing her distaste for GOP infighting over Trump versus DeSantis.

But when Tafoya stepped in, she noted “some of the Trump-backed candidates really struggled, and some of that had to do with the election denialism.” Offering up an apology to McEnany, she referred to an open letter she’d posted on Substack, imploring the former president not to run again.

“It says ‘Please Mr. President, don’t run again,'” Tafoya said. McEnany told Tafoya she didn’t owe her an apology. At this point, Tafoya brought up the thorny issue of abortion and how it played a part in the midterm elections.

McEnany jumped back in, saying that the conservative movement behind Trump is “not tied to any one person.” Kennedy seemed dubious about this claim and asked McEnany “why did the former president come up with this name ‘DeSanctimonious’ a couple of days before the election?”

“That’s a distraction,” Kennedy said, “and he’s forcing people to galvanize themselves in different camps. He is doing that!”

McEnany pinned this on Trump’s habit of giving people he’s angry at disparaging nicknames. She voiced hope that would quit attacking fellow Republicans but offered no reason why Trump would refrain since he’s been doing this for years.

I’ve included a clip of the discussion below.
