2024 Election

Republican Mega-Donor Is Tired of Trump and Says it’s Time to ‘Move on’ to a New Candidate

Citadel CEO and Republican mega-donor Ken Griffin says it’s time for the Republican Party to give Donald Trump the heave-ho. Many of us would agree with him on this but he has said he would support Ron DeSantis as a presidential candidate, so while he’s got half the equation right, the other half is a decidedly BAD idea.

DeSantis is decidedly anti-LGBTQ and anti-abortion. There’s just no way in hell that he’s an improvement over Trump, and Trump is bad enough. If Trump is a bad dream, DeSantis is a nightmare.

I guess Griffin doesn’t care that Desantis continually misled people about his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because by supporting DeSantis he’s supporting all of this. That being said, Griffin has given $60 million to GOP candidates and campaigns during this election cycle, The Independent reports.

In an interview with Politico, Griffin said he thinks Trump is past his expiration date. But unlike me, he phrased it nicely.

“He did a lot of things really well and missed the mark on some important areas (what, he didn’t persecute immigrants enough? He didn’t pass enough anti-LGBTQ legislation? He didn’t attack Black Lives Matter protesters enough times? Someone tell me please.) “And for a litany of reasons, I think it’s time to move on to the next generation.”

Griffin fattened up DeSantis’s reelection campaign for Florida Governor by some $5 million and said he doesn’t know if DeSantis will run for president.

“It’s a huge personal decision. He has a tremendous record as governor of Florida, and our country would be well-served by him,” he said.

Griffin did say, however, that he disagreed with the Florida governor when he sent dozens of Venezuelan migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard.
According to Politico:

“It struck a personal chord with Griffin, who grew up in Boca Raton, playing soccer with Latino immigrants.”

Well, good. I’m glad he feels for something other than adding another billion to his $30 billion+ empire. He said he’s trying to mend fences between Republicans and corporate America. He’s added that the dust-up earlier this year between DeSantis and Disney, which resulted in the company losing its special tax status over the passing of anti-LGBTQ legislation “felt like retribution.”

Trump, who is likely to announce his 2024 presidential ambitions soon took a swipe at DeSantis during a rally in Pennsylvania last weekend and that’s caused scorn among Republicans.

“DeSantis is an extremely effective conservative governor who has had real policy wins and real cultural wins,” conservative commentator Matt Walsh wrote in a Twitter post. ”

“Also, nice job launching your public attack against the most popular conservative governor in America three days before the midterms when we’re all supposed to be sharing a united front.”

I’m hoping that Trump’s self-serving efforts might continue to destabilize the Republican Party. I’m curious to see what he’ll do if DeSantis wins the Republican presidential nomination.

I swear, all these people deserve each other, Griffin included.
