GOP Hypocrisy

MAGAs are Fighting Like Crazy Over Casey DeSantis Being Called the ‘Walmart Melania’ and Boy…They Are ANGRY!

Casey DeSantis was given a new nickname by an online news site that’s spurring debate about whether critics of her husband, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis should use it.

She was on hand for an event in Iowa for her husband’s 2024 presidential campaign on Sunday, where she wore a black leather jacket featuring an alligator over the outline of Florida, Newsweek reports. Placed prominently on the back was the phrase “Where woke goes to die.”

This led Katie Baker, an executive editor of The Daily Beast to respond in an op-ed titled “Casey DeSantis is the Walmart Melania.” A not-so-veiled hint that perhaps Casey is trying to imitate former First Lady Melania Trump, whose husband Donald Trump is Ron DeSantis’s main challenger.

Of course, Melania infamously wore that army-green jacket that bore the message “I really don’t care, do u?” while on her way to visit a detention center where immigrant children separated from their parents were incarcerated. This message made her seem incredibly callous.

Baker couldn’t help but ask, in her op-ed, whether the message on Melania’s jacket meant “nothing at all” since she often appeared to act as a “cipher whose eyes seem to betray an inner emptiness.”

Casey DeSantis’ jacket, by comparison, Baker writes, is “just like her husband Ron DeSantis’ campaign: Crude. Grasping. Saying the ugly part out loud.”

“Whereas Trump would wink-wink at the fascists—who can forget his dog whistle to the ‘very fine people on both sides’ at Charlottesville—DeSantis wants to peel off Trump’s base by being even more explicit about who he intends to target.”

“You can see it right there on his wife’s jacket: DeSantis’ Florida is where the woke go to die—and a lot of other people die as well,” Baker wrote, in reminding us that Florida suffered one of the highest COVID death rates in the U.S. during DeSantis’s time as governor.

Folks on social media have now had their say on the “Walmart Melania” nickname for Casey DeSantis. Even MAGA loyalists have weighed in and they were divided on the moniker.

“Wow. #WalmartMelania is trending on Twitter as a description of [Casey] DeSantis,” tweeted far-right nutter Laura Loomer (who is not exactly known for her love of Ron DeSantis).

“Even the media is having to confirm MAGA’s observations that Jill and Ron are trying to be cheap knockoffs of Melania and Donald Trump.”

Even conservative political commentator Tomi Lahren (is she even relevant anymore?) took a swipe, aiming it at those who have mocked Casey DeSantis by using the nickname.

“This is ridiculous. Melania Trump is beautiful and so is Casey DeSantis and the fact some on the right are going along with this ‘Walmart Melania’ pile on is not a good look,” Lahren tweeted. “Who needs Liberals when some Conservatives are willing to stoop that low.”

Frankly, I think Walmart Melania is quite fitting. I’m sorry but Casey DeSantis is little more than glorified white trash. Anyone who continues to live with a man who failed millions of Floridians during the COVID crisis, who has helped enact hateful anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, and who is single-handedly trying to dumb down Florida’s educational system deserves that moniker.

But some Republicans are taking this a step further to attack First Lady Jill Biden.

John Block, a New Mexico congressman who proudly calls himself a MAGA Republican, has used the nickname aimed at Casey DeSantis to attack the outfit worn by Biden, who was shown wearing heels and fishnet stockings as she stepped down Air Force One in Maryland in April 2021.

“I never thought I’d be defending Casey DeSantis, but WalMart is bomb. And if Casey is the WalMart Melania, then what is this? The Target Melania?” Block tweeted and shared an image of Jill Biden wearing the fishnet stockings.

The anti-Trump group The Lincoln Project also couldn’t resist responding on Twitter, sharing a screengrab showing “Walmart Melania” and cleverly writing in Twitter’s trending topics sidebar: “Apparently @CaseyDeSantis hates this moniker, so we should all absolutely never use it.”

At least one person on Twitter criticized the irony of using the nickname for Casey DeSantis.

“The only problem with calling Casey DeSantis Walmart Melania is that it is an implicit compliment to Melania, implying that she is somehow superior to Casey. And she is not. They are both dreadful enablers who wear crass clothing,” tweeted Mrs. Betty Bowers, who is hilariously payed bye Deven Green.

I think Deven pretty much nailed it there. Both of these women have supported and encouraged husbands who clearly have fascist agendas, and this is scary because as bad as Trump was, DeSantis is even worse.

And the Democrats continue to sit on their thumbs. If another Democrat doesn’t run to challenge President Joe Biden I fully believe we’ll wind up with DeSantis as president. That is definitely not a good look for this country.
