2024 Election

SHOCK POLL: Trump Suffers Major Blow in Poll After Indictment Over Classified Documents

Former President Donald Trump has taken a tumble in the polls thanks to his recent legal battles, according to a recent poll. Folks are apparently not looking at him as favorably as in the past according to a survey of 1,500 voters. The survey was conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies on June 25 exclusively for Newsweek.

The poll found that fewer people now believe the legal issues assailing the former president are “politically motivated,” compared to an April poll taken weeks after Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony charges stemming from the alleged falsifying of business records in New York.

The June survey was conducted after Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 federal offenses in connection with Special Counsel Jack Smith’s classified documents investigation, wherein the ex-president is accused of retaining top-secret and classified materials when he left the White House and willfully obstructing attempts by federal officials to retrieve them.

Trump continually denies any and all wrongdoings when it comes to the classified documents and “hush money” probes and yells that this is all part of a politically motivated “witch hunt” aimed at ensuring he loses in 2024.

When people responding to the survey were asked which statement they agreed with more, 47 percent answered that Trump’s legal problems are “primarily the result of his own actions which appear to have been illegal.” That’s a 13-point increase from the April survey when 34 percent responded.

The June poll also reports a further 38 percent believe the investigations are “politically motivated attacks” by Trump’s opponents. This is down by 19 points from April’s results, where 57 percent said they believed this. An additional 42 percent of voters believe that Trump’s handling of classified materials was “wrong and endangered national security.” One quarter (25 percent) said Trump’s mishandling of the documents was wrong but didn’t pose a threat to national security.

It also looks like the percentage of voters who believe Trump, the current frontrunner in the GOP 2024 presidential primary, should be permitted to run for president again if he is found guilty and imprisoned has dropped as compared to April.

The June survey found that 26 percent of voters said that Trump should be permitted to run again if he’s imprisoned, while 58 percent said he shouldn’t.

Those numbers were different in April’s poll, where 38 percent said he should be allowed to run in the 2024 presidential race, with 51 percent saying no, he shouldn’t be allowed to run. There are, however, fewer voters who think it would be a “good thing” for the country if Trump wound up in prison compared to April (35 percent to 43 percent).

Another change in the June poll is that there’s been a rise in the number of voters who believe it would be “bad” for the nation if Trump were sent to prison. Newsweek reports 39 percent think this would be bad, as opposed to 33 percent in April.

The June poll also reflects that there’s been a drop in the percentage of people who “strongly support” (34 percent) or “support” (16 percent) the ongoing investigations into Trump as compared to April (40 percent and 19 percent respectively).

All I can say here is that until the 2024 election, we can look forward to polls contradicting each other, right and left. We are in for a long haul, folks.
