Federal Judge ‘Laughs in the Face’ of Trump Attorney Over His Argument Against New Gag Order

That's gotta hurt.

US District Judge Tanya Chutkan finally got sick of Trump attorney John Lauro’s nonsense in court. He’s already made basic legal mistakes, lashed out at court employees, and made a general ass of himself and his client.

But Lauro wasn’t done being a moron.

During a Monday hearing on whether she should impose a new gag order on Donald Trump, the judge appeared to “laugh in his face” as he argued against the order. Lauro insisted that the restrictions already in place on Mr. Trump were “working,” to which Chutkan replied, “I have to take issue with you, Mr. Lauro.”

It’s not as if Trump doesn’t know that his words will inspire his followers to take action against the people he dislikes. In May of this year, Trump told a CNN Town Hall that his supporters listen to him “like no one else” and basically implied that he uses them to his advantage.

In addition to the obvious — his call to arms that led to the January 6 riots in 2021 — Trump has recently called for the assassination of General Mark Milley and inspired people to call and harass those involved in the trials against him.

But the list is much longer of Trump soliciting vengeance on his behalf than Chutkan even needs to impose a strict gag order:

  • He told the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by”
  • Perpetrated the “stolen election” lie while there were still millions of votes to count
  • Called Judge Arthur Engoron’s chief clerk Senator Chuck Schumer’s “girlfriend”
  • Tweeted angrily about Bill Barr after Barr said there was no evidence of election fraud; Barr was immediately threatened
  • Forced a judge to adopt “anonymous juror” measures in the January 6 case after Trump’s repeated attacks

We’ve all seen what Trump does. For his lawyer to argue that existing restrictions on his speech are effective in stopping him from getting people threatened or himself threatening the integrity of the cases against him is absolutely ridiculous.

Trump has personally gone after election workers, judges, prosecutors, witnesses, and even civilians only marginally connected to the charges against him.

In short, nothing but legal consequences will deter Trump from continuing to do the same — and we’re not even so sure about that.
