2024 Election

Trump Finally Did Something So Bad That Jared Kushner Has Washed His Hands of His Father-in-Law

While Ivanka Trump has politely but firmly stated she doesn’t plan to work for her father Donald Trump during his campaign or his presidency if he wins it also looks like her husband Jared Kushner is following suit. In the nascent days of his candidacy, Trump is already embroiled in problems that may sink his 2024 campaign and Kushner isn’t stepping in, according to The New York Post.

A new report by New York Magazine indicates that ever since that now-infamous pre-Thanksgiving dinner the 76-year-old former president had with rapper Kanye West and white nationalist Nick Fuentes at Mar-a-Lago, Kushner has ignored pleas for “help … for public support, even looking for a response” from his father-in-law’s campaign.

The magazine adds Kushner’s disinterest has even reached the point where he merely hands out Trump’s phone number so that people can access Trump directly in lieu of acting as a go-between like he did in the past.

“He was like, ‘Look, I’m out. I’m really out,” one source told the magazine.

And even before Trump announced his third presidential bid on November 15, Jared and Ivanka didn’t hide the fact that they had no interest in taking part in his campaign.

“They both feel they got burned in Washington and don’t want to go back and expose themselves and their children to another bitter campaign,” one source told the Post.

Kushner was on hand when Trump kicked his campaign off at Mar-a-Lago but Ivanka was noticeably absent, and that became the subject of plenty of scuttlebutt after she released a statement that said, in part “I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family. I do not plan to be involved in politics.”

The source that spoke to New York Magazine acknowledged Kushner was sending a “mixed message” by attending Trump’s campaign kickoff and described it as “a combination of having respect for a family member and drawing clear lines for your life.”

In an interview with reporter Olivia Nuzzi, Donald Trump insisted that even though there were notable absences from his speech, his entire family is “100 percent” behind him.

“I think that all members of my family are with me. It doesn’t mean that they’re going to work on the campaign, but they’re always 100 percent with me,” Trump said, adding that Ivanka “did a very good job, and she was treated unfairly, and I don’t want to see that happen, you know? It’s a nasty business.”

Of course, dear old dad is the cause of some of that unfair treatment. Testifying before the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. capitol building had to be stressful for Trump’s eldest daughter. Dad got all feisty after Ivanka told the committee she had accepted then-Attorney Bill Barr’s assessment that her father really had lost the election — fairly and squarely.

“Ivanka Trump was not involved or looking at, or studying Election results,” Trump snapped. “She had long since checked out and was, in my opinion, only trying to be respectful to Bill Barr and his position as Attorney General (he sucked!)”

It’s pitiful that Trump stooped so low as to kick his own daughter. It’s no wonder she doesn’t want to work for him.

And Trump seems to be maintaining his usual delusions. Nuzzi asked him at one point about how he was dealing with the fallout from the West Fuentes dinner and he responded “I don’t need anybody’s advice! I don’t need any advice! I’m pretty good. I think I’m pretty good at doing advice.”

However, a Trump 2024 adviser had a differing opinion.

“There’s nobody around him who wants him to do it,” the adviser said. “Forget Jared and Ivanka — Don Jr. doesn’t want him to do it! The only person who wants him to do it is Eric’s wife, Lara, because she’s so ambitious.”

Recent polls also show Trump trailing behind the current GOP favorite, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis if a hypothetical Republican primary were to be held now, and the former president wasn’t particularly happy when asked about being “governed by” DeSantis, 44.

“Well, I live in Florida … but you know, when you say ‘governed by’ him …,’ Trump told Nuzzi before a brief pause. “You know, these people forget. Politicians tend to forget.”

“I don’t think anyone can beat me in a primary.”

If Trump wishes to believe this, let him.

As USAToday noted earlier this month, Republican support for the former president has definitely bottomed out, thanks to the midterm losses he incurred and the continued investigations into his allegedly inciting the January 6 attack and his alleged mishandling of classified documents that were uncovered by the FBI at Mar-a-Lago.

He’s more than welcome to entertain his delusions. He just won’t have Jared Kushner or his daughter Ivanka for company in this.
